The movie based as anti-haredi, but if you would be watching it from clearly frum standpoint you can notice there some problems and/or bad behaviours of our frum communities that bother a lot people who aren't there or were born there but end up being frum or between frum people.
PS. I would highly recommend NOT to watch this movie for not frum people, non-Jewish people or people with yet unstable views on orthodox Judaism.
my wife and i loved this show. great acting and drama.
ReplyDeletei didn't think it was so anti-haredi. some of the charachters (especially her father) were very complex. and i thought the rosh yeshivah came across as a very fair person.
well it has such ideas - for example when boys get into Zorik's apartment and crash everything inside. Or when they throw eggs into Zorik's sister.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't able to watch any of the parts, but it seems interesting. ALso Zorik is my brother's name.
ReplyDeleteDUDE:
ReplyDelete"well it has such ideas . . ."
a) i'm not sure why these scenes make it anti-haredi
b) and even if this is anti-haredi, it is more than cancelled out by the reacion of the rosh yeshivah, who kicks out his own nephew from the yeshivah for acting like a shabavnik
@KT enjoy!

Well that's only one case. They show you constantly what boys do, how they react at 'other' people, how they treat their wives (at least one wife), and the main point is at entire shidduchim system...
"how they treat their wives (at least one wife)"
ReplyDeleteonly 1 wife was mistreated in the movie and there was no indication that this is the norm. to the contrary, the rosh yeshivah took the husband to task for this. also, i thought that the relationship between her parents was a nice one (open and intimate).
"and the main point is at entire shidduchim system"
do you think that they potrayed it inaccurately in any way?
"how they react at 'other' people"
again, do you think this is inaccurate?
i understand that you may not like what you see in the show, but this doesn't make it anti-haredi.
do you think that a show about an inner-city black neighborhood that features gangs is racist?
or a show that features a russian couple where the wife cheats and the husband drinks is anti-russian?
the only thing i didn't like about the show is that it is entirely unrealistic that a russian immigrant family would settle in the middle over entirely haredi neighborhood.
"do you think that they potrayed it inaccurately in any way?" - accurately, but with negative attitude.
ReplyDelete"again, do you think this is inaccurate?" - again negative attitude.
"or a show that features a russian couple where the wife cheats and the husband drinks is anti-russian?" - can't say about wife cheating, if about both of them drinking it would be anti-something too. but it's a bad example. Watch Transsiberian - very anti-russian movie.
